MultiPhy will be promoting single wavelength solutions for on-board optics
Palo Alto, CA – June 23, 2015 – MultiPhy Inc., a global leader in DSP-based high bandwidth CMOS communications semiconductors for Data Center Connectivity today announced it has joined the Consortium for On Board Optics (COBO). The Consortium for On Board Optics develops interoperable specifications to lower power consumption and increase bandwidth for optics within Enterprises and Data Centers.
“We are pleased to have chip companies that provide solutions for 100G and 400G join the consortium”, said Brad Booth, chair of COBO. “CMOS semiconductors will continue to play a major role as the COBO ecosystem develops for cloud and enterprise datacenters.”
The goal of COBO is to develop a technology roadmap and specifications for on-board optics. Integrating the optical modules within the networking equipment will significantly decrease power and cost, while increasing faceplate bandwidth.
MultiPhy will work with other industry leaders to define standards in order to reduce power consumption and face plate area in Data Center networking equipment. MultiPhy’s DSP technology enables 100G single wavelength solutions that achieve superior performance, power, footprint and cost efficiency. “Single wavelength technologies can achieve the cost and port density targets required by Data Center providers”, said Avi Shabtai, CEO of MultiPhy. “IEEE’s recent acceptance of 4x100G for short reach connections paves the way for single wavelength 100G adoption across Data Center solutions.”
MultiPhy is a fabless semiconductor innovator of cutting edge digital-signal-processing based integrated circuits for high-speed communications. Backed by top VCs, the company’s 100Gb/s and 400Gb/s CMOS chipsets for advanced modulation schemes are leading in the technology paradigm shift made necessary by the dramatic increase in network traffic. MultiPhy’s solutions make optical networks faster, more scalable, flexible and more cost-effective for Data Center Connections. MultiPhy’s winning team of multidisciplinary talented experts in all aspects of optical communications theory and design, have created differentiated patent pending technologies that are redefining cost effective, high-performance solutions at 100Gb/s and beyond next-generation networks.
